DeepSeek V4 is not a single model but a family with several versions. Of these, only two accept images: V4.1 Flash and V4 Flash Vision Exp (marked experimental). The other versions—V4 Pro 0813, V4 Flash 0731, and older checkpoints—only accept text. To use a text-only model with images, you can run a separate vision model first (such as Qwen3.8 27B or Kimi K3) and send its text description to the V4 model.

Anthropic reports that Chinese AI companies including Alibaba, Moonshot AI, and DeepSeek have conducted extensive "distillation attacks" — attempts to steal and replicate the capabilities of Claude models. Alibaba accounted for 151 million such attempts between May and July 2026, while Moonshot AI made nearly 300,000 requests in ten days. The attacks use techniques such as disguising questions as translation tasks to get the model to reveal its internal reasoning, which can then be used to train competing smaller models.

Deepseek Harness is a platform for running AI models and offers significantly lower costs than Claude Code, but still has bugs and feels like an early beta program. The video shows that Deepseek has impressive customization options but is not fully ready to replace Claude Code for all use cases.
