Funding from Meta will support CNIB in four areas: Listening to the community: Engaging people across Canada to understand their experiences, and how AI glasses can support greater independence in everyday life. Supporting community champions: Supporting Canadians who are blind, Deafblind or have low vision to lead in-person peer training and demonstrations, and gather candid product feedback in their communities. Informing product development: Sharing community insights with Meta’s accessibility and product teams to help improve future technology.

That’s why Meta is bringing Superintelligence models, research funding, and direct researcher collaboration to academia through partnerships with five US universities: California Institute of Technology, The Ohio State University College of Medicine, Louisiana State University, Indiana University, and UTHealth Houston. We’re expanding our academic partnerships by granting $2 million across these five schools to support research that uses our models to accelerate breakthroughs in medicine, physics, chemistry, biology, computer science, and mathematics. In medicine and healthcare, researchers will work on a diverse set of projects using Meta’s models, glasses, and mixed meality headsets to address existing gaps in medicine and healthcare. A video is about sports for its first six seconds, then turns political for half a second. Catching that across a hundred million plus videos is one of two problems Aditya Gautam works on at Meta; the other is unoriginal content, trivial to make with AI tools and corrosive to attribution. Both sit on messy data: adversarial uploads, multilingual on screen text, drift, and no ground truth. Mismatch across modalities is a solved embedding problem; mismatch within one modality over time is not, so three agents share it. A perceiver splits the video where temporal change happens, not at a fixed frame rate, and emits clip level embeddings, tags, and OCR. A reviewer runs the temporal analysis over that JSON and folds in live comments and sentiment. A retriever indexes topics, embeddings, and entities into inverted, vector, and graph stores for pulling similar clips and authors at inference time. Every agent runs on a small specialized VLM, not a frontier model, since he does not care whether it can code.

Meta already handles more inference requests than the world's largest microservices, and the volume is growing faster than any workload they run. Nishant Gupta compares the evolution to cloud infrastructure in 2008: value shifted from individual virtual machines to orchestrators that manage complexity. The same shift is happening for AI inference in just a few years. What is new is coupling between layers—a routing decision affects cache hit rates, which affects GPU load, which affects autoscaling. Naman Ahuja explains that inference needs its own control plane, much like virtual machines needed Kubernetes.

Meta has launched Muse Glimmer, an AI model with 30 billion parameters that can work with text, images, and videos simultaneously. The model is open source and is already integrated into popular tools such as transformers, llama.cpp, and vLLM. It uses smarter techniques to reduce memory consumption and speed up generation — including the ability to share information across multiple queries and an optional 'drafter' module for faster code and content generation.
